Ears!

Well, we finally gave in. Kate has been begging for her ears to be pierced. I so did not want to do it. Don't know why, just didn't. I think she is still a baby (i know most get theirs when they are, but I didn't). Chris said go for it. If she wants it this badly, do it. So after a week of explaining the procedure hoping it would scare her out of it, we went. She did great. We told her they would do them at the same time, well they didn't. I told her if she got one she had to do the other. After that first one, she looked up at me with a "help me mommy" look. She never cried. I calmly said, you have to do the other and she nodded. It broke my heart. But now she loves it. Leah wanted hers too. She climbed in the chair and Kate told her it really hurt and out of the chair Leah went. I had NO intentions of letting Leah get hers.

Wow, MIA blogger for sure. I was feeling guilty tonight on my new found Internet flame - facebook - and had to come back to my first love! Seems I do that a lot! We are great! A very long summer for the Honeas. Chris once again found a house for me to fall in love with, sold my other house out from underneath me, and remolded yet again! To sum it up, sold in June (thank goodness) moved in 4 weeks ago. So where did that leave us July, August, Sept, and part of October, me without Internet! We stayed at the beach, my moms, chris' dads camp, and back at my moms.
The girls are great! Kate started K5 at Parklane and Leah is at Centenary again for three half days. They are loving dance, played soccer and are growing like weeds. I'm sure there is much more to blog on but for now this is it.

My baby girl turned 5 this week. 5 - I can't believe it! She is something. We started the day off at McDonalds for breakfast, went to story hour with Miss Mattie and rounded it off at the Mexican restaurant - all her favorite things. (chris works thurs, fri, and sat, I don't do much cooking on these days :) I really think she has had a good birthday. My niece, Kendall, turned 13 on the 10th so we've been celebrating alot! Kate had a party on sat. (pics to come) and we went to eat Japanese in Hammond Sat night! I am tired! The girls are still at it. Kate is having her first friend sleep over tonight. I typically don't do this, but it's a friend that's two years older and her grandmother lives next door. They are having a blast!

I have so much more to blog about. We have had VBS, swim lessons, and swim team. Tomorrow is Kate's first swim meet in Jackson. She is doing the 25m freestyle (one lap). So lots more to come. Also pics from her party.

The girls and I have been on a mini vacation. One of the things I enjoy about living back home is that my girls are/will go to the same school I went to from K to 12th grade. Kate finished up K4 at PA and Leah finished her two year class at Centenary. They both had great years and GREAT teachers. We were blessed. So on Sunday we headed out to meet a friend of mine from my PA days and a classmate of Kate's. We had a great time beach bumming. I think this is going to be a great summer at the beach for the girls. They did great! We are going back at the end of summer and I can't wait!

So, I decided two weeks ago that Leah didn't need her Bee-Bee anymore. We were going to the dentist that afternoon and I wanted to be able to say, "No - she is not still using a pacifier". So, the night before, Leah packed her Bee-Bees up in a plastic bag, had one more night with her fix, then gave her Bee-Bees away the next morning. Now, don't call child services, a mom has got to do what a mom has got to do. Leah and I headed out to Wal-Mart (yes, this is the only store in our little town!). We found a baby that needed them and gave our plastic bag of used Bee-Bees to the baby. The mom did look at me with one eyebrow up at first, but once she realized what we were doing, she happily cooperated and took our bag. We then proceeded to the toy department and replaced the baby toys with a big girl toy! The first night was rough, but overall it has been a Wonderful Experience! Leah did great! Now, if she would just potty train!

Once again, like last year, Kate is playing T-Ball. The kids get 5 or 6 chances to hit a pitched ball. If they don't get a hit, they get to hit off the tee. Kate has done so well, much improved from last year. She hits her pitch and actually fields the ball. Here are some action shots and a sweet friend of hers.

The Tooth Fairy Visit

As expected, the tooth fairy made a visit to our home. Kate was so excited to find her treasure. She and her dad made a special trip to Wal-Mart that morning. Kate not only picked a prize for herself, but also got something for Leah, too sweet! Have I mentioned how much I LOVE THESE GIRLS!!!

ps. it won't be much longer before the fairy comes to get her second tooth that is about to fall out!

So, today I'm going about my day and my phone rings. Conversation:

Cathy Brown: Cori, Kate wants to talk to you.
(my heart begins to race, why is Kate's teacher calling, and what does Kate want)

Kate: Mom, I lost a tooth!

Me: What! You're kidding, how awesome!
(me really, tearing up b/c my baby really isn't a baby, she's growing up before my very eyes!)

I was in shock! Chris immediately asked who hit her or what did she trip over! She bit into a grilled cheese today at school and out it fell. Mrs. Brown said she walked up with the tooth in her palm, cool as a cucumber! Kate had told/shown me days earlier a "gap" in her teeth. Sure enough, there was a gap. I guess this was the tooth detaching or something. The one next to the lost tooth is also loose! Really, she is only 4! Needless to say, I called the dentist and have checked with my aunt who is a hygienist - it could happen. Ironically, we already had an appt. scheduled with wonderful Dr. Cook in Jackson on Monday.

Guess you know who will be visiting us tonight!!!!!

The other night Leah woke up crying. After going through the "I want Daddy, I want Nana, I want Meme" (notice she didn't ask for momma, really) I asked if she wanted to sleep with Kate. I really didn't know how this would work, we've never done that. She said yes, and fell right back to sleep. This is how I found them in the morning - it melted my heart!

We are getting ready for the Easter Celebration around here. Yesterday started off with parties for the kiddos at their schools (still bummed they don't let the parents come - boy I miss PCS!) Today our church had a hunt then we went to a birthday party with a hunt. The weather is gorgeous! I am loving it, so are the girls. We have spring break this week and I look forward to spending alot of time outdoors! Have a great EASTER!!! I am sure there will be more Easter pics to post later.

I wish I had a great story of some adventure we've been on, but none to report. Just been busy. Busy doing nothing too exciting. The girls are great. A little sickness, but then again, so does everyone else they go to school with :) All is well with us. We visited with our cousins this past weekend. Sydney from AL was in town. Kendall was in NOLA with James. We did go visit them this weekend. James is growing so fast. He is such a good baby. Doesn't seem needy at all. He is so content. Kendall is preparing for a play at her school. We'll go watch her perform. The girls are so excited. Both girls are practicing for their end of the year ballet recital. I've gotten to watch both of them practice. It should be interesting! :) Ball season is coming soon, Kate is getting excited about that. Me personally, I am just ready for some warm weather - to stay! And now for what we all come to these sites for PICTURES!!!!!

We went to see Jay, Shelly, James, and Kendall today. Kendall spent the weekend with her dad and Shelly, and met James for the first time. When we walked in, she was holding James. He is so sweet and little. Too precious for words! The girls went right to him. I guess seeing Kendall with him was like an open invitation to them. They adore Kendall. All my coaching them into staying away and being quite went right out the door - but then again - we are talking about a two and four year old, what was I thinking. Leah actually didn't mind her picture being taken for once, although, I think she thought I was only taking James' photo, not hers! And now looking back at my pics, I don't have one of Chris holding him. He got his turn though.

James Randall Allen, III

It all began Friday night. I got the call around 9:30 pm and hit the road. What a weekend! With a perfect result. James Randall Allen, III (James) was born at 4:20 pm January 14, 2008, weighing 7 lbs 5 ounces and was 20 1/4 inches long. Oh and he is REAL cute!
Did you catch that I said it began on Friday, yet he was born on Monday! HA - Shelly has got a great labor story! She and Jay are doing great! We didn't get to spend a lot of time with James (those nurses - ugh!), so being home now, I am dying to go back and spend time with him! Hopefully we all can visit soon! (hint, hint)

Jolly Ole St. Nick

Well as we've been telling the kids for a month now, the big man in the red suit came to visit. But more importantly, when Kate was asked what Christmas was about, she would answer it's Jesus' birthday and giving presents to others. Hopefully she will always feel this way and celebrate with the same heart of a child.
This year was different for us. We actually did not have to rush and run to be with everyone this year. Living back home definitely had it's advantage this year. We began on Sunday with the Allen Christmas. We traditionally went to see the lights in Tylertown (if your live close and have not seen this, it's something to see). Afterwards, we had our family Christmas with Kendall. She was not with us for Christmas Day this year so we had our fun with her then. Shelly and Jay stayed through Christmas. Shelly's parents traveled down from Arkansas. After Christmas Eve services at my mom's church, we had my in-laws and Jay's in-laws over for supper at my mom's. It was nice visiting with everyone. Much to Shelly's dismay and through several braxton hicks contractions, baby James did not make his appearance for this Christmas! Poor Kendall and Ms. Sue (Shelly's mom) really wanted that baby to come while they were in town!
I was surprised on how easy Kate went to bed. She must have been very tired. I am sure in the years to follow, this will not be the case. Chris and I differ on whether Kate got him up or he got her up. I am sure he woke her up :) She was so excited. Leah is still unsure of the whole ordeal, but was glad to see the gifts and had no problem ripping into them!
We then had our traditional breakfast of oysters and the fixings at my mom's. We rounded out the day at Chris' grandmother Opal's.
Another new gathering was having Chris' dads Christmas the day after. It was actually very nice having it all spread out. The kids weren't overwhelmed with too many gift at once. Notice I said at once, they definitely were overloaded with gifts! :) Merry Christmas and a happy 2008 to everyone!

Christmas Memories 2007

We had such a busy December, as I am sure many others did too. With Christmas parties, school programs and family gathering we stayed pretty busy. We picked our tree this year from an actual tree farm. Chris had to cut it down himself. HA! When we arrived they handed him a hand saw, no lie. I could bend it over my knee. We found the "perfect" tree and noticed other men lying on the ground sweating in our 70+ degree weather (hence the children's attire). Chris is smarted than that and found a local friend riding a tractor around the farm. He borrowed his chainsaw. I felt like an ant near a sugar pile, people started flocking to us to borrow the chainsaw. Too funny!
Leah's school had a program. She sang two songs. A silly one and Happy Birthday Jesus. Leah is still not a fan of the camera so I don't have many good shots of her. Maybe next year!
We ended up the month with parties, the annual Blalock Christmas, and Mr. Whiskers annual party for the employees. With much anticipation for the big day the jolly ole man comes to visit.

On another note, so glad to see Brandi and Alyssa joining the blog world! More blogs to stalk!

Princesses on Ice

Meme treated me and the girls for a birthday/pre-Christmas gift for the weekend. We went down to the Gulf Coast for the Disney Princesses on Ice show. It was great (despite catching the stomach bug, UGH!) We had great seats right on the ice and the day was topped off by the prince trying to fit Kate with the glass slipper. Oh well, so what it only fits Cinderella, Kate was a close fit :)

This weekend my brother and sister-in-law surprised their daughter with tickets to see the Jonas Brothers. The Jonas Brothers are the big thing these days with the young ones. Kate even knows who they are. They open for Hanna Montanna. Friday night they played alone at the House of Blues in NO. Jay and Shelly searched hard for tickets and came up with some. They were telling us about the tickets last week and we reminded them that a woman from our area who we know was their tour manager. Turns out Kendall got to get BACK STAGE PASSES to meet the guys. I think we were more excited than she was! She even got to be on the front row for the concert. She can tell you exactly how many times she touched their hands and for how long! Too fun! The pic is a little dark but from the left is tour manager, two of the group, Kendall, another Jonas Brother, and my brother, Jay. I am sure if Kendall were here, she could tell me what the boys names are, but I am just not with it!

Thankful Thanksgiving

We had a wonderful Thanksgiving with LOTS to be thankful for. We started out at my mom's and by the end of the day had covered three families in two counties. Whew!
My aunt L from VA came down to visit. The girls had lots of fun with them. It was a great day!

Veteran's Day with my Indians

Today, PA celebrated Veteran's Day. It was a very meaningful program. K4 - 6th participated along with the school's chorale groups. Kate's class lead us in the Pledge of Allegiance. Kate was front and center. Next time, I'll teacher her to stand like a lady - HA! Notice the boy next to her with his finger over his mouth. The whole class walked in like this, it was funny!

When I picked the kids up this afternoon, I no longer had Kate and Kyle. It was Little Flower and Little Bear. Too cute!

Dear Friends

About a week ago, Kate called out by name one of our dear friends we have in Jackson. We lived close to them and visited their beautiful place a good bit. She said, "I sure love __________". I thought it out of the blue and we talked a little about the things she use to do at their house. Yesterday, I found out the family is facing serious health issues. They say young children have a sixth sense at times. Maybe Kate was telling me. If you wouldn't mind, say a prayer for our dear friends. Last March, the four of us went to Steamboat and had an awesome time. It's good to have friends like them.

Well actually Sat. night kicked off our Halloween festivities. But, oops, I forgot my camera that night. So this morning the girls were allowed to dress up for school. Kate had a Fall Walk (they walk the halls for the older students) and a class party. Hopefully her Aunt Leighton got some good pics I can share for that (we, the parents, aren't allowed at school, HA :(.
Leah had a Fall Show. Her two year old class performed a poem and a song. I was surprised she didn't run to Chris and I when she spotted us, but she didn't. She did really good.
More pics are to come. Tonight is Fall Fest at PA and then Wednesday, Leah will have a class party and then we will Trick or Treat with our cousin, Kyle, that night.

This is how I found Leah the other day. She was suppose to be taking her afternoon nap. I had heard her playing a little. I guess she finally tuckered out in the middle of her toys. She is getting to where she is trying to cut out that afternoon nap. I am doing everything I can to keep it!
She had a follow up on her finger last week. She'll have another surgery after the first of the year. Fortunately for her, age is on her side and she'll do fine.

Monday Night Football!

It's been a while. We've been busy! Leah started "school". Three half days a week at a local Methodist church. She absolutely loves it! She waits at the door in the mornings with her bag ready to go. On the days she doesn't good, she constantly is asking to go. Thanks goodness she likes it.Kate is still enjoying PA. Next week is Homecoming Week. We should be busy posting pictures next week of her dress up days.

This past Monday night, Chris and I had date night out of town. It was so much fun. We went to the Saints/Titans game. The Saints didn't do well and Deuce is out for the season, but Chris and I enjoyed our time away. I've got lots of pictures to post. My Aunt Kristi had a gathering before the game at their apartment. Lots of food and fun! After the game, we waited around for the players in the parking garage. It was fun to see what they drove and to see which players would talk to us. Deuce was so nice. Bless his heart, he was injured in the game not knowing if he would play the rest of season. He stopped to sign autographs and let me take his picture. All players were pretty cordial. Drew Brees, Charles Grant, Mike McKenzie , Sean Payton, and Reggie Bush entertained us. Well back to reality and another busy week.

New Orleans Weekend FUN!!

Two weeks ago, the girls, Meme and I went down to New Orleans to see my brother, sister-in-law, and niece, Kendall. We had a great time. For anyone going that way, I recommend you going to the Children's Museum. My girls and niece had a great time there. We stayed about 2 and a half hours, but the girls could have stayed half a day. There was so many things to do! After the museum we went to the aquarium, which is always fun. We are planning a trip back soon once the weather cools off. We also got to go do a little shopping. Shelly got Baby James his first gift. We just found out a couple of weeks ago the baby is going to be a boy! Kate is so excited!

Today Kate had her first day of dance in our new city. Her class is a combination of gymnastics, ballet and tap. Let me just tell you, she is in love with the tap shoes. I have to admit, she is pretty darn cute in them! Here she is getting ready for class. Emme Wallace is the other little girl. Emme and she are in the same class at school. First day of ballet/gymnastics

Today was Leah first day of ballet/gymnastics. Leah loved it. Well of course she did. She wouldn't let me leave. It ended up being a "mommy and me" class. Like her teacher said, maybe after 6 weeks I can quit attending classes, HA, we'll see :)
She looked so cute. Her teacher is Ms. Becky. Ms. Becky taught me as a child as well as Chris. He is quite the gymnast, just ask him, he'll do a flip flop for you in a heart beat!

Day 4 of school - nap time is still her favorite part. ??? She tells me she has to sit all day in her chair - so I guess she likes to finally be out of her seat! I dunno know!

Kate started K4 at Parklane Academy last week. She was very excited to go. She woke up bright and early and wanted to get dressed right away. She has a "uniform" she has to wear. It consist of khakis and either a red, white or blue polo shirt or school logo t-shirt. Mrs. Brown is her teacher. Mrs. Brown is precious and we adore her. When I picked Kate up, she told me her favorite thing was nap. I laughed. On the second day, I asked her again, she replied, nap. Oh my!

I know several children in her class. One of my best friend's from PA little girl is in the class. Also, my nephew Kyle is in her class. I think this made Kate's days much easier having him in the class.

We just got back from the beach. We had lots of fun. Meme and Pop joined us (or more like we joined them, HA). Kate and Leah had a great time swimming. Kate said she liked the pool better than the ocean. She says the ocean itches! Too funny. The girls came back with a better tan than me, go figure! After the family left, I stayed and spent a few days with my college gals. I'll update more about that later, we had a blast!

Today we celebrated Leah's birthday. We had lots of fun. Uncles, aunts, friends and more helped us celebrate.

Friday, we had a check up for Leah's hand. Dr. Jabaley allowed me to let Leah swim for her birthday party. We simply had to change the dressing after the pool fun. In two days, we can take the bandages off for good. He said she healed beautifully. Thank goodness, we leave for the beach in the morning! YEAH! Beach pics to come.

Two years ago on July 19, my mom and I were sitting on my couch in Jackson when I suddenly felt mild back pain. We joked I could be in pre-labor. My mom suggested we go walking. WHAT - walking. I was over due with my second child and my only thoughts were to sit back, relax, call the doctor and let her do the rest. WALKING. Looking back now, I was glad we did. I think it helped. I finally woke Chris up around 4 am that morning and suggested we go onto the hospital. Around 11am on July 20, my beautiful 9lb 2 oz baby girl - yes 9lbs! was born. Leah Allen Honea. She was perfect, literally 9 - 10 on the apgar. I'll never forget after they took her to "freshen up" and all the routine things they do with newborns, one by one my family members kept walking in the room saying I wasn't going to believe her hair. I laughed it off. They kept saying it was wavy and brown. WHATEVER I kept thinking, Chris, Kate and I are all blonde - no waves. To my amazement, they finally brought me my beautiful brown haired curly not wavy headed child.

Two years have flown by and I have loved every minute. I once told someone who was expecting their second child, that you get to enjoy the second child's first few weeks a little more than you do the first child's. You know, you're over the first time mom thing. I always wondered how I could love anymore than I already did. It is completely different. We love just as much, no more, no less, in completely different ways and for different reasons.

What a week!

PRAISE GOD FROM WHOM ALL BLESSING FLOW! This has been the case at my house this week. We definitely received a blessing. On Sat. July 7, Leah had an accident involving her left index finger. She caught her little finger in a vent. After a trip to our emergency doctor in town, we were referred to a hand specialist in Jackson. Sweet Dr. Jabaley performed the surgery on July 10, and gave us a positive report. She has really done GREAT with her circumstances and if it had been me, I would still probably been on major pain meds and up in the bed! HA! I am posting some pics, hope they are too yuck for any of ya'll.

Finally - today - I - have - DSL!!! Whoo Hoo! And not to mention my computer has been at the "computer doctor" for a week. I have been so out of touch! Glad to be back.
